Senior Compliance Officer & MLRO

£100 - £150,000 per annumLondon, CityPermanentOnsite

Role Responsibilities:

In particular as branch MLRO:

  • Provide the business and support functions with proactive, pragmatic and commercially-focused expert financial crime advice;
  • Undertake ad hoc client file reviews and event-driven reviews in relation to emerging risks or concerns.
  • Provide input on periodic MI reporting to assist with the reporting of key MI metrics relating to financial crime matters.
  • On a regular basis, and in line with the firm’s monitoring plan, identify, assess, and manage financial crime risks.
  • Keep abreast with current EU, UK, FCA & Gibraltar / Financial Crime laws, rules, regulations and other guidance.
  • Communicate with the Group Head of Compliance to harmonise best practices and promote a uniform approach on financial crime compliance advisory, training, policy and surveillance and monitoring matters across all offices.
  • Cooperate with the National Crime Agency in the UK and the Gibraltar Financial Intelligence Unit in Gibraltar, providing relevant disclosures on suspicious activity and following up their enquiries as required. 
  • Ensure all internal suspicious activity reports received are investigated and reported without delay.

In particular as branch senior compliance lead:

  • Provide the business and support functions with proactive, pragmatic and commercially-focused analysis, guidance and advice in relation to compliance matters, in particular in respect of the firm’s CFD / spread betting business.
  • Develop and implement an effective branch compliance programme.

Generally, across both components of the role:

  • Together with the Group Head of Compliance, establish, implement, and maintain adequate policies and procedures, and internal controls, which are sufficient to ensure compliance of the firm under the regulatory system.
  • Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses and provide an advisory service as to how these can be improved
  • Collaborate with external and internal auditors and HR when required.
  • Provide an advisory service to employees on regulatory requirements and hoe to most-effectively achieve compliance with these.
  • Communicate with and influence senior management, especially via relevant governance forums, on both matters arising and strategic decisions which have regulatory relevance.
  • Communicate with industry peers to identify latest themes and issues and best market practices.
  • Cooperate with the Financial Conduct Authority (and, where required, Gibraltar Financial Services Commission) on all relevant matters.
  • Provide management information to the firm as necessary including an annual report for the Board and senior management on the Company’s compliance with its UK & Gibraltar obligations, as well as regular reports for the Board on compliance matters and progress on projects.
  • Any other ad hoc duties that may be required from time to time.

The ideal candidate disposes of:

  • Highly experienced within compliance roles in the financial services sector
  • Able to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Upholds the firm’s legal, regulatory, ethical standards and reputation.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high accuracy and quality standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity in all tasks and functions performed.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to prioritise and re-prioritise in a fast moving and constantly changing environment.

Requirements and Preferences:

  • Educated to University degree level, preferably in law, accounting, business, finance or related discipline or equivalent.
  • Highly experienced Compliance generalist in the Financial Services sector
  • Experienced in CFD, spread betting, derivative products, required.
  • Strong working knowledge of the FCA Handbook and FINRA rules
  • Good knowledge of European financial markets regulation, e.g., MiFID II/MiFIR, MAR
  • Knowledge of market dynamics, liquidity and trading practices
  • Well-developed understanding of multiple assets and instruments

This role is regulated under the FCA’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime.
